Hello Friend - Hola amigo - Hola amiga … Helping Young Children Communicate the Basics!

One of the most basic and important concepts that you and your child should first learn in a new language is being able to greet someone informally and in a friendly manner.

That is why for our Boca Beth Program one of the first songs I wrote and recorded with children ringers singing with me was Hola amigo / Hello Friend from our first CD titled My First Songs in Spanish / Mis primeras conciones en Inglés.

It’s written to the melody of “Frere Jacques” and is so comforting to listen to, so soothing and children worldwide ask for it daily we are told!

Enjoy!!! ¡Disfruta!

My First Songs in Spanish music cd for children, Mis primeras canciones en Inglés

“Hola amigo/Hello Friend” (track #2)
(sung to the melody of “Frere Jacques”)

¡Hola amigo!
Hello friend!

¿Como estás?
How are you?

¡Muy bien, gracias!
Very fine, thank you!

¿Y tú?
And you?

(song repeats one complete time)

¡Hola amiga!
Hello friend!

¿Como estás?
How are you?

¡Muy bien, gracias!
Very fine, thank you!

¿Y tú?
And you?

Suggested Classroom / Circle Time Activity Fun for this song:

Use BOCA the puppet to introduce BOCA (the star of the BOCA BETH Program). Ask the children to say “Hola BOCA” “Hi BOCA” to warm them up. Talk about how BOCA is a boy, he’s a friend of mine, and of Johnny & Maria so he is called an “amigo.” Ask the children to repeat the word amigo and the word friend. Then use a girl puppet (preferably in the bird family like BOCA is) and talk about how JULIA is a girl, she’s a friend of mine, and of Enrique & Susie so she is called an “amiga.” Ask the children to repeat the word amiga and the word friend. Then move into the first song of language time . . .
Sing this song above using the BOCA boy puppet alternating to the girl puppet. We always start each language session with this same song – providing a routine and repetition and success daily with the second language learning. Children thrive on familiarity with routine so bring that comfort into your second language fun time!

Happy Educating! ¡Sea feliz educando!
