BOCA BETH: One Song at a Time

Writing songs to teach preschoolers a new concept has always been one of my strengths in my life as a teacher!

I love taking melodies that the children and I are familiar with, writing some new words to match the beat and introduce a brand new concept through those new lyrics and familiar tune!

That my dear amigas & amigos is what you call a Piggyback Song in the world of early childhood development and learning with music.

With Christmas close at hand for many of us Christians I feel compelled to share our song titled Here & There / Aquí & allí that comes from our third Boca Beth bilingual music CD called “Sing Along with Boca Beth / Canta con Boca Beth.”

(sung to the tune of “Jingle Bells”)

Aqui, Aqui-Here, Here!
Alli, Alli-There, There!
Aqui, Aqui-Here, Here!

Aqui means here, Alli means there.

Aqui then Alli means here then there!

Suggested circle time activity fun for preschool age children and classroom fun for early elementary school age children:

This is one of the many songs on our third Boca Beth CD that allows you to incorporate some fitness fun as well as second language learning. The children stand and begin pointing to the ground with knees bending slightly as they do the motion for “Aquí, Here.” The children then point overhead for the motion for “Allí, There.” It can get silly too if you want – asking the children to try to follow your moves left overhead and right overhead. On the break of words where you hear just music we all do a silly dance. And at the end, where the airplane is heard, we make an airplane with our hand and let it fly away.

The children love this one as they try to keep up with ‘Ms. Beth.’ I warn them that I am going to try to trick them and go faster and faster on the moves pointing down and up!
