How Do You Teach Spanish to Young Children When You Only Speak English? Read About and Win Some Awesome Tools To Help You!

I hear questions like the title of this morning’s post so often!  Particularly as I travel to places such as Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, California, Chicago and the likes!  It seems that every state in our great nation is feeling the sense of urgency among its population to begin giving their young residents a jump start on learning Spanish as their second language.

But, many moms, many teachers, many child care providers are NOT bilingual.  I am just fortunate that as a native-born Floridian, I had the opportunity to live in Chile and live in Mexico after studying Spanish for more than 7 years in classroom settings.  Immersion was the key to making me a fluent bilingual in conversation, reading, writing and culture appreciation!

Now I provide fellow moms and teachers with the bilingual educational fun tools that will bring Spanish and English together via music and movement CDs, DVDs, books and puppets PLUS suggested activities to make the learning come alive from our Boca Beth fun & easy to use products.  Check them out by clicking here!

Our son is adopted from Guatemala and we are trying to give him as much Spanish as possible! We’re not fluent ourselves, so every little bit helps.

I would choose Sing Along with Boca Beth cd because he already loves the five little monkeys song and the Mi Casa dvd because that would be useful vocabulary for him to have.

Thanks so much for the giveaway!

I would LOVE to win this package! I have been looking for something like this to help teach my sons Spanish. They are biracial (Hispanic/Caucasian) and have many relatives who only speak Spanish. I think it is so important for them to be able to communicate with their relatives, especially the older generations, while they have the chance. Unfortunately their father (who speaks Spanish fluently) doesn’t seem to have the patience or desire to teach them and I only know a few basic words.

I would start from the beginning so that we could build on it:
My First Songs In Spanish CD
    & My House/Mi Casa DVD

    Gracias!!!

I would love to win the ‘My First Songs in Spanish CD w/ Boca the Puppet’ and the ‘I Like Animals DVD w/ Boca the Puppet’. We would be a great candidate to win because we live in the southwest and learning spanish would be a very useful tool for us. Great giveaway, thanks!

This is such a neat giveaway! For a CD I would pick “My First Songs in Spanish CD with BOCA the puppet”, and for the DVD I would pick “My House”.

I would love this for my daughter. Her father’s side of the family is Mexican and a few of her great-grandparents only speak Spanish. Her daddy and I both want her to grow up bilingual and knowing Spanish, however I know nothing and her dad really hasn’t cared to teach her much. He says he wants to, but he’s always making excuses and to be honest, I don’t think he really cares much. Right now she’s at the stage where she’s asking what everything is and picking up a lot of new words so I think this would be a great time to introduct her to another language! I’d be able to work on this with her while daddy was at work, and hopefully learn a few things myself!

I think the My House DVD would be perfect for us because it’s broken into segments so we could watch a new segment every few days. She’d also be learning words she’d be more likely to use in every day conversation. I think the My First Songs in Spanish CD would also be great for us.

    I’d pick the CDs.
Why my family needs these…. well we live in Texas and barely speak a lick of Spanish so I’d say we could use all the help we can get.

Our baby is on the way, so we want to get started on the right foot (or mouth, as the case may be!) “My first songs in Spanish” seems the obvious choice, altho if “Sing Praise For Children” is age appropriate I would prefer that one. :) My house seems like the better choice for DVD, as we can practice the words a bit more than the animals one.

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

“Sing Praise for Children” CD and “I Like Animals” DVD. Why is our family a great candidate? Well, we are world citizens with the desire to learn more about the world we live in and the languages that we speak; we love learning! Also, I think it would be great for my son to learn Spanish for cultural reasons. I’m part Puerto Rican and don’t speak Spanish fluently (For some reason I found that German was a lot easier for me to learn than Spanish, which I struggle with). I would like for my son to learn Spanish and this sounds like a fun and easy way to start!

Would like the Spanish CD and then the love animals DVD since I think that would be the most appealing to Thomas. We would love to win this, we have a full 15 months to fill up while daddy is away and I would love to have our children be bilingual since we move so much with the Army.
Thanks, asfulmer at bellsouth dot net, ame

I’d like the My First Songs in Spanish CD and I love Animals DVD. My son gets several mini immersion sessions with his Tia Paula each week. She plays with him for short periods of time and will only speak to him in Spanish during those times. It’s fun, but he loves music and animals even more. Plus, I think he gets “tired” of his Aunt always “bothering” him with Spanish. So, hearing and seeing it from somewhere else may boost his enthusiasm even more.

  12. Heatheron Mar 24th 2008 at 2:09 pm

The Cd I would choose is My First Songs In Spanish and the DVD would be the I Like Animals one. I have 3 kids ages 5, 3 and 1 (and #4 on the way) and I’d love them to learn Spanish when they are little and its easiest for them. My husband took French and I took Italian but by the time we were learning them in high school it was too little and too late for us to really learn them well. I feel like where we live my kids don’t get much exposure to other cultures and I’d like to do what I can to change that.

  13. Pisecoon Mar 24th 2008 at 3:20 pm

I would love the Sing Along With Boca Beth cd that has action songs on it - because my daughter (adopted from Guatemala) loves to move and groove and my son has more couch potato tendencies! We could dance the day away together - and work on our Spanish too.

The I Love Animals DVD is unique - I haven’t seen another product like it, and what kids don’t love animals? It would help me a lot with my journey to learn Spanish and I’m sure the kids would be wild over it.

We’re working as a family to bring more Spanish into our home, but living in an area without a strong Hispanic culture, it’s been an uphill battle! We’d love more Boca Beth in our lives!

These are soooo awesome… I would love to win this beacause mt twins are biracial, and the spanish would help them better communicate with their hispanic family… especially on the vacation to the islands.. lol.. i would choose My first songs in spanish CD and My house/ mi casa DVD..

  15. Katieon Mar 24th 2008 at 6:57 pm

I think the My House DVD would be a perfect starter for us. I would love to win this because I want my kids to learn Spanish, and this way I can learn at the same time too! I studied French in school and have never used it but I’ve been in MANY situations where Spanish would have been very useful.

  16. Megon Mar 24th 2008 at 8:34 pm

I’d have to say “My First Songs in Spanish” CD and “My House” DVD. I am a homeschooling mom to two, one preschooler and one soon-to-be-preschooler. I think that we’d be a great winning candidate simply because my children are still learning the ENGLISH language and are super pliable to learn a secondary language at their age. I think it would be easier for them now rather than to start later. Thank you for the generous giveaway! ( meg.wilson@gmail.com )

I have studied Spanish for a few years and would love a good tool to help introduce the language to my daughter. I would chose “My First Songs in Spanish” CD and for the DVD, “I Like Animals”

  18. Coleenon Mar 24th 2008 at 10:29 pm

I studied in Costa Rica as an undergrad (and was reared in Southern California so encountered my own share of Spanish) and would love our daughter to learn Spanish. As such, I would love
Sing Praises for Children and I like Animals to introduce our little girl to a beautiful language.

    Muchisimas gracias.

  19. Beccaon Mar 27th 2008 at 12:03 am

My husband speaks Spanish, and I’ve always wanted to learn. Our baby girl’s birthfather is Hispanic, so now we have extra incentive to bring the Spanish language in our home. I’d love the “My First Songs in Spanish” CD and the “My House” DVD. Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. kellion Mar 27th 2008 at 5:33 pm

I would love to win the My First Songs CD and My House DVD. My sons will be attending the local public school which has a spanish immersion program. It would be great to give them a head start!

  21. Kristy Sanderson Mar 28th 2008 at 8:13 pm

I am a preschool teacher with 4 Spanish speaking children and 16 English speaking children. My kiddos have embraced each others differences, but are struggling to communicate with one another. I believe your First Songs cd would help to soften the language barrier and get the kids involved more in appreciating each others backgrounds…not to mention changing their brain patterns to learn a second language before the age of 10-12 when it becomes so much harder.

  22. jeanne grayon Mar 29th 2008 at 12:49 pm

I would love the my first songs and i love animals. Although i took spanish in college and have used some very basic phrases, i couldnt teach my son. this would be great. thanks jeanne

  23. Cassieon Mar 29th 2008 at 11:46 pm

I think the “My House” DVD and the “My First Songs in Spanish” CD would be the best for my little guy.

We don’t really have any special “qualifications” other than I think it’s important for us to teach our children about other cultures. I want my kids to know and respect people from different cultures. One of the best ways to achieve this is to learn the language.

Thank you for the chance to win.

  24. JacketLoveron Mar 30th 2008 at 1:46 am

We haven’t had children yet, but both of us have been learning Spanish and would love to share the language with our kids in the future! I love the “My First Songs in Spanish” CD and the “My House” DVD.

Thank you very much for the lovely contest :)

  25. Tricia McCammackon Mar 31st 2008 at 10:06 pm

I really like the My First Songs cd and the My House dvd. I actually speak spanish but have not really focused on teaching it to my children. I would love to have a tool to use to help this process!

    Thanks!
