Do You Know Your Shapes in Spanish?

Many of us can remember “¿Dónde está el baño?” (perhaps not with the accent marks in all of the correct places!) but how many of us can remember the five basic shapes in Spanish?

Many of us realize that if you put the ‘lesson’ to a song, chances are we will remember it for years to come and so will the children we introduce the formas/shapes to today!

Let’s get the bilingual educational fun started right now.  Leave out the word education!  Put in a melody you and the children already know (that’s one of the main ingredients in my Boca Beth Program!).  In this case I wrote my I Know My Shapes / Yo sé mis formas (joe say mees for-mahs) to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb.

Today I will not be providing you the free MP3 download.  I want you to see how easily this can be done acappella (that is, without any music) …..  Get the beat going in your head …… Now see the lyrics below….

Click here to see all of the words/las palabras (lahs pah-lah-brahs) to this fun bilingual song.

A circle is rolling by,
Rolling by, rolling by.
A circle is rolling by,
Circle is círculo.
A circle is círculo,
Círculo, círculo.
A circle is círculo,
I know my shapes!

The beauty of our Boca Beth Program is we enunciate when we sing so that you can understand each word, the children receive correct pronunciation in both English and Spanish and you as the parent and teacher will feel super comfortable using our music CDs (click here to view all the different songs and concepts we introduce), our DVDs (click here to view our latest bilingual music video - it is adorable so gather your children around the computer first!), and our other fun bilingual products.

    Muy buen día.
I volunteer teach spanish in my twin daughters pre-k class once a week. Teaching spanish through music is definitely the most effective way to teach young children. One of the children’s favorite is sung to “Muffin Man”
I give each child a different animal to hold. As I sing the song the children participate.
    Here’s the song:
If you have caballo, caballo, caballo
    If you have caballo
Stand up and make it sing

The child stands up and makes the animal sound. Then I do each animal the same way. It’s a simple tune and by the second or third animal all the kids are singing.

Your songs are great to use because they are short and use familiar tunes. I believe the familiar tune helps the child grasp the concept even faster because they can focus more on the words rather than learning a new tune.
    Keep up the good work.
