The Children Taught Me Sign Language and Movements for My Boca Beth Songs!
Each year (for the past four years now) the first grade team from Plumb Elementary School in Clearwater, Florida has held a multi-cultural night singing my Boca Beth songs for their family members. This amazing 35 minute event showcases the childre’s voices in Spanish and English and proves to any skeptic that, once put to music, language learning CAN be fun and easy!
I went over to the school to practice with these 6 and 7 year olds who had been hearing my Boca Beth music for only 3 or 4 weeks thus far………………nothing short of spectacular was how I felt! Their little bodies just burst at the seams with pride in learning a new language. Not to mention the few Latino children sprinkled in the population of this first grade class who just beamed with pride and were so orgulloso/proud that all of us were singing in THEIR native language right alongside their new found English.
Bilingual Beats can do this to children. And I even witnessed their teachers (all monolingual mind you!) humming along and learning right along with their students!
The children in Ms. Rops class brought to life my Position song off my physical fitness fun CD. I will be adding those fun suggestions to the FREE resource area of my web site next week. Then the students in another first grade class taught me sign language for my More Opposites song off this same CD. I can’t wait to use these new suggestions tomorrow during the SECA Conference in Kentucky with preschool teachers and administrators.
Happy Educating! ¡Sea feliz educando!
