Little ones ages birth through five will easily soak up new languages, engage in new cultural activities and appreciate all that these new sights and sounds bring them.  What is so wonderful about the early years is that these children have not been jaded by society, have not heard the screams for “English only” or read the editorials from narrow-minded citizens who feel we are being wronged when we talk about introducing a new language into our public school system using their tax dollars.

As I walk these streets of South Florida, have breakfast at the place of a Native Columbian woman (who, by the way, exclaimed to my family on the way out of her restaurant how great their mommy’s Spanish is!!!!), and hear the many languages at this time share spot, I thank God that my mother allowed me to not only learn Spanish as my 2nd language but to also travel to Chile and Mexico as an exchange student to experience the cultures of these friends of mine.
