The Ugliest Ball I Have Ever Seen! And You Get a Chance to Win One!

horriball          horriball-twoDON”T WORRY!!!!  These are not real roaches inside this ball!

No cucarachas running around my desk area today!

I am simply sharing with all of you one of the ugliest things I have ever seen for kids.  It’s called the Horriball, and when you squish it the fake little cockroaches appear through the see-through bubble areas of this disgusting ball!

Now…you might ask!  Then why Boca Beth are you sharing this revolting item with us?  Well, if you know our Sing Praise for Children CD at all you will know that we put two traditional Latin American songs on it (in a bilingual Boca Beth format of course!).

One of the songs on it is La cucaracha / The Cockroach!  I thought these Horriballs would be cool prizes to give away to go hand-in-hand with this song!  Click below to hear the Boca Beth bilingual kids song, the fun translation we provided, then come back and comment below with an answer to this question:  What does the cockroach not have to drink?

La cucaracha / The Cockroach Song

We will take all correct answers, mix them up in a sombrero and send out a sickening Horriball to TWO lucky winners!

What Do Children Remember? Music! Music! Music!

I admit it!  I am a soccer mom!  At the soccer field with our daughter three times a week, and now that the Florida heat has set in I can tell you it’s not as appealing as it might sound!

Might I share a quick story with you about what happened at the soccer field this past Wednesday night and how it should resonate with all of us as parents and as our children’s first teachers?  Thanks!

For five years in a row a local elementary school, Plumb Elementary School, in Clearwater, Florida has been hosting a Multicultural Night titled Bringing Spanish to Life with the Boca Beth Music!  The entire first grade class learns some of my bilingual songs, I drive over to the school and practice with them while at the same time give them a Boca Beth motivational short speech, then they enjoy a standing-room-only performance night!

These six and seven year old kids learn so much Spanish in such a short time it’s crazy!  The parents love it!  The teachers are heroines!

Wednesday night we are getting ready to leave the soccer field, and I see a young girl just staring at our vehicle, the magnetic signs on the side that advertise Boca Beth and its bilingual products, and I ask her if she’s having a great day.  She replies she is and informs me that she learned some of her Spanish with ‘that Boca Beth music’ years ago at Plumb Elementary school!

She starts singing the song her class did which was the I Know the Days of the Week/Yo sé los días de la semana song!  She is in 5th grade now and could sing the entire song to me!  Then her sister comes over, tells me she did the show too, and her class did ¿Qué pasa? / What’s Happening? and SHE starts singing her song!  Then - to make me feel even better  - their older brother who is now in middle school announces he and his class learned the I Know My Shapes / Yo sé mis formas and he goes into action with the song!

What do you remember learning to music?  The states?  The capitals?  The planets?  A Math formula?

Comment below with what you learned to music years ago and whether or not you remember every word!

We will choose a random winner to receive a Boca Beth Beach Ball for summer and a Boca Beth bilingual t-shirt this coming Monday, May 17th!

Let’s Give Away Some Judy Clocks and a Bilingual Book

WIN TWO MINI JUDY CLOCKS plus A BILINGUAL BOARD BOOK from Gladys Rosa-Mendoza

I had filmed a cool mini lesson using these adorable mini sized Judy Clocks from Discount School Supply, and when we went to post it the thing just will NOT work :( :( :(

So much for my mastery of technology!  Maybe we will reshoot it or something, but in the meantime, I want to run a quick and easy contest for all of you blog readers right now!  Ready?  Here is how easy it is to enter:  READ the suggested circle time activity below from our free resource area on the Boca Beth web site.  Then comment below giving us your definition of what an echo song is - in other words, what makes a song be able to be called an echo song.   Sunday night (May 2, 2010) we will gather all of the entries that are correct, and we will choose one random winner from the batch!

What Time Is It? / ¿Qué hora es? suggested circle time activity: This is an echo song. I ask the children if they remember what an echo is. I praise the correct answer person and ask them to be my echo in this fun song about telling time in Spanish and English. If the children are old enough to get the concept, they can act out the time of day while singing about it. We hold our arms out in the position of 8 o’clock, then straight above our heads for 12 o’clock, then pointing down towards the ground for 6:30.
